Rio de Janeiro-born percussionist who moved to the US and worked with jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Pass, and Milt Jackson. Earned Quincy Jones's trust and played percussion on all three Michael Jackson–Jones albums: Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. The distinctive cuíca sound on 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'' was his idea. DownBeat called him 'one of the most talented percussionists of our time.'
